How the league runs, what the numbers mean, and how to get on a team.

How a match night works

Matches run side by side across the room. Your table is listed against your fixture on the schedule page, so you can walk in and go straight to it.

Every match is a full round robin: each player meets each opponent once, and match points are awarded on the night. Team sizes, table pairings and the number of games differ between divisions — the section for the division you are looking at carries its format.

Handicaps and ratings

Every player carries a handicap, listed on the player standings page. The handicap sets how many games a player needs to win their individual match, which is what lets a first-season player take a frame off a league veteran.

The rating column on the team standings is a strength figure for the team as a whole. Separately, many members also carry a FargoRate — a worldwide rating built from recorded match results, explained at the link below.

The nights we play

Monday nights are the 8-ball division. Two For Thursday is 9-ball and scotch doubles. There is also a straight pool division. Each runs its own season, schedule and standings, and you can switch between them from the tabs at the top of any page.

Joining a team

Most seasons at least one team is looking for another player. You do not need to arrive with a team or a cue — turn up on a match night, say hello, and someone will point you at whoever is short.

The league is a registered 501(c)(7) non-profit. Dues cover table time, the season-end payout and BCAPL membership.

Monday Night 8-Ball

Four players a side, sixteen games a match. Five matches run at once on paired tables — 18 & 17, 16 & 15, 14 & 11, 13 & 12, and 10 & 9. Team standings are ordered by rounds won.
